Principal's Message

Welcome to Rio Hondo School!

Here at Rio Hondo School we are committed to providing the best possible educational experience for every child. Our focus is on providing our students with opportunities to excel both academically as well as social-emotionally. As a Leader in Me School, we foster the growth and development of each child utilizing the 7 Habits to ensure that our students can be successful in anything they put their minds to.

At Rio Hondo, our kindergarten through sixth grade students are scheduled in self-contained classes. Student learning in these grades are further supported by classroom instructional aides, intervention teachers, counselors, and an itinerant music teacher.

At the middle school level our students participate in seven period days where basic classes (English, Math, History, Science, and Physical Education) are supplemented by a variety of elective courses.  Our award winning band/choir in addition to our dance and drama classes highlight the arts department.  College and career readiness is further supported through the AVID elective. Lastly, we round off our electives with our industrial technology class, which teaches woodworking and applied science skills as well as our yearbook class which teaches the aspects of yearbook production.

Students’ interests at Rio Hondo are developed through participation in a variety of campus action teams/clubs. These action teams enrich our students’ educational experience by emphasizing leadership, drama, literature, and athletic opportunities.

This year, we look forward to continuing to collaborate with our Rio Hondo staff, family, and community members to continue propelling Rio Hondo to Excellence.
